GOD DOESN'T JUST SPEAK, HE DRAWS
When the lack of faith is revealed in the murmur
Idolatry is one of the most offensive sins against God. And there’s a reason for that. It is comparable to the pain of betrayal in a marriage.
Anyone who has been through this knows: it’s like a dagger in the back, like losing a body member. The pain is deep. Similarly, idolatry represents the exchange of the Creator – the living, unique and true God – for something false.
It can be an image, an amulet, a horoscope, an entity, an object or even a pleasure. Still, it’s idolatry. And although God condemns it from Genesis to Revelation, humanity insists on ignoring the lessons of the past.
When pleasure becomes a god
The biblical text says that the people “sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play”. (Exodus 32:6)
Today, this is more current than ever.
Many began to idolise enjoyment, pleasure and idleness. They hate work, murmur against the routine, and live counting the days until they can escape their responsibilities. On Sunday night, they start Monday’s complaint.
However, the work is worthy. It builds, teaches and strengthens. The problem is not in the routine, but in the heart that refuses to learn from it.
Murmuring attracts destruction
Paul is even more direct when he talks about the murmur:
“Nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.” (1 Corinthians 10.10)
Nothing has changed. The murmur continues to produce the same effect.
The people who came out of slavery in Egypt walked towards the Promised Land. The journey could have taken about 1.5 years. However, because of the constant complaints, it became forty years in the desert.
There was always a reason to murmur: lack of water, lack of food, longing for Egypt, tiredness of the manna. Nothing was enough.
Murmuring is a lack of faith
Psalm 106 reveals the root of the problem:
“Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His word, but complained…”
- Murmuring is a lack of faith;
- It’s not trusting God;
- It’s not understanding the process;
- It is to despise the path between Egypt and the Promised Land.
There is no great victory without a great fight. There is no great testimony without suffering. The desert is part of the journey.
Watch your mouth
We will never have a perfect world. Things will never be 100% our way. We are flawed – often, we are the reason for other people’s complaints.
Therefore, add a simple rule for your life: if you can’t do anything about it, then close your mouth.
Can’t I control the weather? So I don’t complain.
Can’t I change everything in the country? So I do my part and pray.
Murmuring only attracts the destroyer and provokes God.
To prevail, choose silence and prayer
In this video, you will understand why God allows processes, deserts before the Promised Land, and how murmuring attracts the destroyer, delaying dreams, conquests and, especially, putting eternal life at risk.
Start the week by trusting, not muttering.
Who believes, prevails.
Who murmurs, perishes.
And if you don’t find anything good to say, remember: silence is golden.
