Don't help the chickling

A chick or any other kind of baby bird must breakthrough an egg to be born. While in the egg their growth requires space. But the only way they can keep on growing is to get out of the egg. So begins their first fight: break the egg with your own strength.

Whoever observes this process and see’s the effort put forth by this delicate creature trying to get out of its prison is tempted to help them. After all, it’s pretty agonizing to watch the little thing killing itself just to be born. But what many don’t know is that the process of getting out of the egg is good for them. During that fight, the chick begins to develop strength, which he’ll need in order to survive after birth. If someone helps the chick to get out of the egg, they will only be harming it.

It’s no different with human-beings. When our children, spouse, siblings, or other family members and friends go through battles, our reaction is immediately to help. And sometimes it’s the rightest thing to do, but not always.

Sometimes they have to suffer the consequences of their actions, deal with their decisions, and fight their own battles in order to grow. If we try to help, we’ll only be harming them.

Love requires us to leave our loved ones to fight their own battles when it’s necessary.
