God gave us a conscience. For example, you are aware of life and death. Animals are not afraid of death, but human beings are. Our consciousness universally guides us in some issues of life. For example, it is wrong to kill, in all peoples and cultures. Inside us, there is this.

However, it seems that human consciousness is not enough because it can be changed. People can justify the unjustifiable, and they turn the lie into truth. Let’s say that human consciousness is a place where God can talk to human beings, but it is not where the person is exempt; it can absolve mistakes. The Bible says that consciousness can be “seared” (ie., the person becomes insensitive to what is wrong).

So, just as when the part of the Earth is closest to the Sun gains more heat, human consciousness will only have the correct principles when it is close to God. And so, God talks to the person about right and wrong. And the further away from God, the “colder” the person gets. So, people are no longer accused in their consciousness. Then, you understand why the person hurts ethical and moral principles. When you confront the person, they say that everything is fine. “My conscience does not accuse me.” But there is a higher court than the human consciousness, which is the court of Heaven. Your conscience should be aligned with Him. It’s not because your conscience doesn’t accuse you; you’re innocent.

Some, over time, make concessions to error. Because God’s punishment does not come immediately – because He is patient, He tolerates (allowing the sinner to repent) – believes that nothing will go wrong.
But the person loses the sense of fear of the Lord and ‘cools’ down in their conscience until the moment comes when they no longer have spiritual sensitivity. Thus, they begin to live like unbelievers, and start to justify their sins.

So, if you want to have a faith and good conscience walking together, you need a compass pointing north, which is the Word of God. If your consciousness ‘cools’ down, it may be unrecoverable.
