BUYING A DRIVER'S LICENSE: KNOWING IT vs DOING IT

Many know it and don’t do it, but the essence of “knowing” is putting into practice what has been learned. Therefore, do not waste any more time and put into practice all the knowledge you have received.

All of us, daily, are targets of a lot of information: radio, TV, reading of all kinds, advertisements, publicity, conversations with friends, studies, books, in short, information of the highest variety. However, a lot of it goes in one ear and comes out the other, but another part we absorb.

So, with this retention of some information, we create within ourselves the illusion that we know something by simply hearing about it.

But the truth is that having information about something is not necessarily knowing about it. Knowing, in fact, in the full sense of the word means you incorporate it into your life through practice.

For example: Why is there a practical test to get a driver’s license?

Although you will take the theory test with all the information that involves traffic laws that you need to know, the time will come when you will have to take the practical test. That is, you will have to train behind the wheel and show that what you studied, now you know in fact.

So, there the inspector will validate whether you can have a license or not. Is not true?

Why is traffic often chaotic in our country? Because many people skipped that part and paid a bribe to pass the test. They didn’t worry about KNOWING how to drive, they worried about BEING ABLE to drive.

So it is in all other areas where we need to make sure a person knows. When you go into a doctor’s office, you want to know if that doctor knows. It is not enough just to have the diploma on the wall.

We all know that to have a medical degree, one needs to have gone through the practical one as well, not just the theoretical one. Only after spending a period in the hospital, practising what they learned in theory, do they obtain their diploma and can have their own office and, finally, claim to be a doctor.

And the more experienced the doctor, the more respected he is. If you’re going to have a delicate operation, you want an experienced doctor, not one fresh out of university.

What does this mean for our faith, for our relationship with God?

Well, what there is in this world the most is people with biblical knowledge, religious, who go to church, who have a favourite biblical verse, who make a spiritual salad in their mind listening to various voices.

People today have many questions. There has never been so much information in the world as it is today. And there has never been so much doubt because people don’t define themselves, they hear many voices, but they don’t listen to the Word of God.

Jesus said, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock” Matthew 7:24,25

That is to say: hearing the Word, believing in it and putting it into practice is what makes your life firm, like the firm foundation of a house built on the rock: nothing overthrows it.

So if you practice the Word, you can say you know! If you only have the knowledge and don’t do it, then, for your good, don’t say you know, and don’t kid yourself! Understand that what you have is information. You, perhaps, are way out of line!

And in no area of life is this as important as in the spiritual, that is, concerning the Word of God.
