7 SYMPTOMS OF SPIRITUAL COMPLACENCY (Final Part): The Antidote
Concessions to one's own will and abandonment of sacrifice reveal when faith begins to grow cold.
Faith doesn’t go well with comfort. And when it comes to life with God, danger never appears suddenly – it arises little by little, silently.
Today, I want to talk to you about the last two symptoms of spiritual comfort: the sixth and seventh.
6th symptom: concessions to one’s own desires
Christian life is a daily struggle between the flesh and the spirit. This fight doesn’t end. However, when the person begins to settle down, they begin to give up small areas of their life.
God doesn’t take away our will. If He took it away, He would also take away the value of our faith. We choose to obey – and that’s what gives meaning to our relationship with Him.
However, the will always manifests itself. There are times when the flesh does not want to pray, does not want to read the Bible, does not want to go to church. It wants rest, distraction, and immediate pleasure. But if I do only what I want, I know I’ll move away.
The problem starts with small concessions:
- “I’m not going today.”
- “God understands.”
- “It was just a joke.”
So many falls begin. First, you lose fear; then you stop taking God’s things seriously.
7th symptom: abandonment of sacrifices
In addition, comfort is installed when the person abandons the sacrifices that faith requires.
Jesus was clear: whoever wants to follow Him must deny himself daily. This means sacrificing one’s own will every day.
Many confuse grace with the absence of sacrifice. But grace is not a comfortable life. Grace is receiving what we don’t deserve – and, precisely for this reason, we need to live with even more responsibility.
The apostle Paul declared in 2 Timothy 4: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” He lived as a sacrifice. And, in Romans 12, we learnt that we are a living sacrifice.
These words are not from someone comfortable. They belong to someone who fought until the end.
A warning
If you identify these symptoms in your life, wake up while there is time.
Remember Samson. He thought everything remained the same. He thought he would win as before. But he didn’t realise that he had already moved away – and fell.
The fall begins in the small and silent concessions.
So, watch. Go back to the sacrifices. Deny yourself.
Because the only way to avoid spiritual complacency is to keep faith alive – every day.
In this video, you will understand what the last symptoms of spiritual comfort are and why they are so dangerous to your faith.
The sixth symptom is to start making concessions to one’s own desires. The battle between flesh and spirit is constant, but after a victory, many relax. The soul asks for a break, suggests that “there is no problem”, and it is precisely at this moment that the risk begins.
When these small concessions become frequent, the seventh symptom appears: abandoning the sacrifices that faith requires. Denying one’s own will, taking the cross, turning the other cheek, all this starts to seem too heavy. And so, faith without sacrifice ends up growing cold.
This is the last chapter of the series. Watch until the end and discover the antidote to get out of spiritual complacency.
