7 steps to a clear conscience

When we do something wrong our conscience becomes our enemy. We are accused by our thoughts and feelings, every time we remember the subject. Even if no one knows anything because our mistake remained a secret, we know the problem exists.

Our minds are split in half. We become weak. We end up failing even more. And the vicious cycle continues.

How do you get rid of it?

  1. If you didn’t stop making the mistake, stop immediately.
  2. Change the habits and routines which lead you to make that mistake, so you don’t make the mistake anymore. Make the necessary changes for this, for example, cut off a friendship or don’t delete the history in your browser.
  3. Confess your mistake to God. Why? Because it’s good for you to have to settle accounts with someone greater than you. He is the only one who can offer you true forgiveness and help you to forgive yourself.
  4. If your mistakes affected someone, make peace with them. Resolve the issue. Erase the wrong, doing what’s right.
  5. Consider the benefits of confessing and coming clean – not for yourself but for those who need to hear your confession. Ask yourself: “Does this person need me to confess? Will it help them? Will it make things better? Isn’t it better for them to hear it directly from you than from someone else?
  6. Share the load. Your Pastor or someone else morally and spiritually prepared can be extremely useful in helping you get a new perspective on the subject.
  7. Learn from your mistakes. Realize how hard it is to clear your conscience. Is it worth getting dirty again?

There’s no softer pillow than a clear conscience. Value it.
