3 TIMES THE CROSS BECOMES OF NO EFFECT TODAY (see if you do this)
How do you see the cross? A symbol? An accessory? Or the greatest event in human history?
3 times when the cross of Christ becomes of no effect (that is, without meaning). The apostle Paul already talked about the cross being of no effect (when the cross became a worthless object).
“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect” (1 Corinthians 1:17).
Thus, at the time of the apostle Paul, some people did not take advantage of the meaning of the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross. And even today, even more so, there are people who live in total indifference to what happened on the cross. I will give you 3 examples of how this happens today, although there are several.
1)When the cross becomes an accessory.
Something that the person uses on the body as an ornament. I’m not saying it’s wrong for you to wear an empty cross. Still, the person may have a necklace or a tattoo of the cross, which is religious and devoid of real meaning. For example, the singer Madonna was the one who began to explore the cross as a symbol in concerts and for marketing. So, it is an example of how the cross is used today as a mere accessory and, therefore, of no effect in the lives of certain people.
2)When the cross is used only as a religious symbol.
For example, making the sign of the cross has no biblical basis. Or someone who puts the cross in front of the house as protection. Some movies show people putting a cross on the vampire’s face to scare them away. These ideas show the cross becoming of no effect in people’s lives. The devil does not fear the symbol, the object, and he even profanes this object through his servants. The cross should not be used as a religious object.
3)When it is used only as a symbol without understanding what it symbolises.
Many take the cross only as a symbol without understanding its deep meaning. The person remains sick, lost, afraid of death, living sinfully and miserable with their family destroyed. Everything that the Lord Jesus came to do to rescue the person does not happen because they don’t understand the value of it. It is as if the Lord Jesus had died in vain for this person.
Thus, I think that: the Lord Jesus left Heaven, came into the world, became a man, patiently went through childhood and adolescence, at the age of 30 began His ministry, was baptised in the Jordan River, and, in the last week of His life here, He said: “For this hour, I have come”. I mean: He left Heaven and spent 33 and a half years for that moment alone. It was His death on the cross.
The least we should do is to make an effort to try to understand this message so that it is not something that becomes of no effect for us.
