3 SOURCES OF ANXIETY AND HOW TO CLOSE THEM
According to research, we are living in the most anxious generation of all time, and this is due to the three sources that generate anxiety in people, but there is a way to close them.
According to data from the World Health Organization and other studies, there have never been so many anxious people in the world as the current generation. Anxiety (in addition to depression) has been one of the main emotional and mental diseases that affect human beings today (especially in developed countries).
When you compare the days of today with those of your parents and grandparents, there has never been as much comfort and availability of material goods and services as there is now. In the last 10 or 20 years, you have observed a tremendous advance concerning the availability of goods and services. You used to go to the supermarket and only had a few brands and products you have today. I’m not saying that people have money to buy everything they want, but there is availability. Compared to our parents and grandparents, we are often more supplied than them. And yet, we are the most anxious generation, the one that complains the most that it doesn’t have things. Why?
Anxiety has three sources. One is that when you despise what you already have, you forget what you have. “I didn’t get that.” “I don’t have money for that.” “Mine is the old version.” The person is always living in tomorrow, and it’s useless. So, be careful. Learn to focus on what you already have. I’m not saying you should settle down, but the excessive care with what you don’t have generates anxiety. You should be grateful for what you have. I also talk about relationships. For example, some women focus on the husband of others or the husband they don’t have. And there are husbands like that too.
Another source of anxiety is that you look at the lives of others. If you study the advancement of anxiety, you will see that it and depression have grown together with social media. The connection is evident: you only had the grass on the other side to look at in the past. But today, we have several social media, television channels, and series. There is so much information filling our eyes that, when comparing your life with that which others live, you think: “I don’t have this life”. So, looking at the lives of others generates comparisons, greed, and envy.
The third thing that generates anxiety is that the person does not know what to do about their situation. When you have a problem, but at least you know what to do to solve it, you can channel your energies into what you have to do. You’re doing something about it. It is a matter of time to get over that. But when the person doesn’t know what to do, they get anxious. Then, despair strikes.
Jesus gave a secret to overcoming anxiety in Matthew, chapter 6. It is as if He said: “Look, you will never solve anything with anxiety, and the best you can do is seek the Kingdom of God first.” So, if you don’t know what to do, seek that God will rule in your life. To seek the Kingdom of God is: “Look, God, You rule my life. I want to know what the Lord tells me to do.” And when He guides you, put all your strength into it. You won’t be able to solve everything at once. And it may be that, before solving a problem, another one will follow.
This is called “life” and will be like that until we die. But, thank God, we have His promise that He will guide us to the end.
