The word “intelligence” is derived from two words in Latin: inter and legere. “Inter” means “between” and the meaning of “legere” is “choose.” So an intelligent person is someone who learned how to “choose between.”

They know that good is better than bad, that confidence must rule over fear, that love is superior to hate, that kindness is better than cruelty, patience is better than intolerance, humility is better than arrogance, and that the truth is more useful than ignorance.

To be intelligent means to know how to choose the best option for you among so many choices.

On the other hand, when a person does not use their intelligence it leads them to hasty, emotional, and badly planned decisions. They are not dumb, but they choose to be.

Intelligence is an exclusive gift from God to mankind. He didn’t give any other being this capability. That is why the greatest praise we can offer to God is the good use of it. He doesn’t want just our faith. He wants our faith to be intelligent.

My intelligence tells me that the most intelligent thing that I can do is to follow the advice of the One who made me intelligent.

“Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” Deuteronomy 4:6
