CHRISTIAN, NOT SAD!!
When expending turns into anaesthesia for a pain that only faith can heal.
Almost no one reflects on it, but it is worth facing this truth with honesty. For Christians, it is evident that money is often used to achieve what can only satisfy the soul.
What looks like expenditure is actually a search
See some simple examples.
When someone buys a ticket for a party, organises an event or rents a space, it is not the party itself that they are buying. In practice, this person seeks joy, belonging and fun. The party is just in the middle. In the same way, those who travel are not after the plane ticket, the hotel or the tourist itinerary. What they want is to escape – escape from routine, pain, monotony, looking for new sensations. The trip becomes just a means to this escapism.
Many try to fill the emptiness of the soul with things and distractions, but soon realise that what is bought never satisfies what the soul really seeks. Shopping, parties, drinks and trips distract for a moment, but only cover the wound, like a band-aid that hides the problem without treating or healing.
And when someone gives or receives gifts? The gift carries a silent message: “you have value” or “I care about you”. Curiously, this value has often not been demonstrated throughout the year, but it tries to compensate for everything in a single day.
The soul asks, the pocket pays
Also, think about the use of alcohol or drugs. Nobody buys this because they want to harm themselves. People seek escape, disinhibition and artificial courage. They know it’s bad, but they still resort to it because the pain of the soul speaks louder.
When we begin to analyse sincerely, we realise something uncomfortable: most of these behaviours are artificial. It’s like putting a band-aid on a serious problem. It relieves for a moment, but it doesn’t cure.
The Christian, on the other hand, understands that what satisfies is not what is on the outside. True joy comes from a resolved soul, which makes us see what really matters. Contrary to what many people think, being a Christian is not tedious, boring or dull. We simply understand that fulfilment does not come from things or people.
When little becomes a lot
Those who know the Creator learn to value the simple: the blue sky, the morning sun, a new day, peace when opening the door of the house. The little becomes much because the heart is full.
The apostle Paul summed this up well when he said that the message of the cross seems foolishness to some, but to others it is the power of God (read 1 Corinthians 1:18). This joy for no apparent reason, this deep satisfaction, really doesn’t make sense for those who haven’t experienced it yet.
An invitation to the healing of the soul
I can show the way, but walking it is your decision. Reflect and look for what really matters. This path is closer than you imagine: in a Bible, in a house of prayer, or simply in a sincere conversation with God.
Say that you are tired of seeking satisfaction in things that do not satisfy. If you seek Him with all your heart, you can be sure: you will also find Him.
