ALL DISCIPLINE BEGINS THROUGH THE MOUTH. Learn and change your life!
Discipline, decisions, and the power of words before God.
Throughout life, many try to change behaviours, habits and even the direction of history itself. However, few realise that real transformation does not begin in circumstances, not only in thoughts, but in what they choose to confess. All discipline starts with the mouth. And this is not the force of expression; it is a spiritual principle.
God initiates change by the Word
Before any human action, God acts by speaking. It was like that with Jeremiah. The Word of the Lord came to him, and at that moment something began to change inside (Jeremiah 1:4). After all, faith comes by hearing the Word of God. When we hear a divine word, it enters us, generates life and begins a process of transformation.
However, soon after, Jeremiah revealed a problem common to many: the wrong confession. By saying “I am a youth”, he expressed a thought that, although it seemed true, needed to be corrected. God reprimanded him immediately, because that speech could prevent the materialisation of the divine plan.
The wrong confession stops the purpose
Here is an important warning: there are things we should not talk about, even if they seem like facts. When we speak, we materialise thoughts. As long as something is only in the mind, it can still be rejected. But when it comes out through the mouth, it takes shape.
Therefore, God said clearly: “Don’t say that.” He did not allow Jeremiah to define himself by his limitations. Similarly, when the person insists on repeating negative words, defeatist or based only on feeling, they end up reinforcing what they want to win.
To confess is to make a decision
Confessing is not repeating phrases as if they were magic. It’s not wishful thinking or empty speech. Confessing is the final stage of a conscious decision. First, the person thinks, evaluates and decides. Then, they confess to themselves, to someone they trust and, especially, before God.
This confession commits the word. And a committed word generates responsibility. Lying to yourself destroys self-confidence. Therefore, the confession needs to be serious, true and accompanied by action.
Talking to God is essential
Just as God speaks to us, we need to talk to Him. Prayer should not be limited to silent intentions. It needs to be expressed. The speech – or any way to materialise thought – makes the decision real.
There are still those who go further and make a vow. The vow is to give the Word to God. But care must be taken: God is not pleased with words spoken in emotion and not fulfilled. Still, when sincere, the vow can mark the beginning of a profound transformation, as I have seen countless times.
Use your mouth wisely
Therefore, do not use your mouth to repeat ready-made phrases, popular sayings or empty thoughts that you don’t even know where they came from. When you don’t know what to say, say what God said. And this does not require special revelation – just open the Bible.
By speaking the Word of God, you strengthen yourself, gain direction and renew your determination. Are you going to stumble? Possibly. But when you remember what God said, you get back on track and keep moving forward.
To conclude
And, as a bonus, when you learn to control what comes out and what comes in through your mouth, all the rest of life becomes easier to organise.
