THE WRATH OF GOD WILL COME
Just as we were created in God's image and likeness (Genesis 1:26) and feel indignation at injustices, we can also understand, on a smaller scale, God's wrath. No injustice will go unnoticed in His eyes, and no one who does it will escape His wrath.
God’s wrath is real. God has reserved wrath to judge this earth. And, on a certain level, we all understand this wrath because we feel a deep thirst for justice within us. When we see injustice prevail, something screams inside us: “This can’t stay like this,” “It’s not fair!” This cry for justice is in us because we were created in God’s image and likeness.
But here’s the point: if you want God’s justice in this world, you must know that it will also reach you—unless you resolve it first with repentance and faith.
What attracts God’s wrath?
The Bible is clear. In Colossians 3:5-6, we read:
“Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.”
That is, God’s wrath comes because of certain behaviours and choices. Let’s understand better:
1. Fornication
Unbridled sex, out of the standard established by God. Relationships without commitment, without covenant, without respect for the divine purpose.
2. Uncleanness
Everything dirty in the mind and heart: toxic content, immoral practices, distorted thoughts. God gave us a conscience to discern right from wrong—many ignore it until they cauterise it.
3. Passions
Exaggerated and unbalanced affections: obsessions with people, beauty, fame, sports, or even with yourself. The idolatry of the body, the search for physical perfection at any cost, also enters here.
4. Evil Desire
Low, vile desires that go against virtue and goodness. They are thoughts and impulses that no one wants to suffer but that many feed against others. It is necessary to do a daily mental cleansing to reject this emotional and spiritual garbage.
5. Covetousness (which is idolatry)
Love of money, attachment to wealth, obsession with having more, to the point of giving up truth and justice. Covetousness leads to lying, theft, and deception. And yes, even stealing from God, as it is written: “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me…” (Malachi 3:8)
The Bible calls covetousness idolatry because the god of these people is money. They serve money, not the Creator.
God’s wrath at the children of disobedience
These practices attract divine anger at the so-called “children of disobedience”—people who ignore God, despise His Word, and live as if He did not exist. Often, we don’t understand why certain things happen to some people, but God understands. He sees what has been planted, and the harvest comes.
How to avoid God’s wrath?
• Fearing God.
• Believing in Jesus.
• Obeying His Word.
• Not with empty words but with genuine faith and reverence.
It is written: “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)
Believing in the Son is not just recognising that He exists. It is to fear, obey, and value the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. If someone despises God’s greatest act of love—the surrender of His Son—there is nothing left except divine wrath.
