The only time the Bible records that Jesus sang a song was on the night of His betrayal (see Matthew 26.30), when it also says that His soul was extremely sorrowful (v38).

It was probably not the only time He sang, but it is notable that the only time He was reported doing it was when He felt extremely sad in His soul. Music is essentially emotional, and that night was no doubt an emotionally charged night for Him.

As it happened, His singing did not really help Him through those difficult moments — but His spirit did (v41).

Music is good. Music is wonderful. But when it comes to winning battles, it’s faith that carries you through. So beware of your emotions.
