JESUS FORBADE THIS, BUT TODAY IT HAS BECOME A HABIT
A little-cited commandment from Jesus, but decisive for those who do not want to lose their faith in the middle of a desert
There is a word from the Lord Jesus that is rarely quoted, and therefore catches my attention. In John 6:43, He declared directly: “Do not murmur among yourselves.” It wasn’t a suggestion or advice. It was a clear order.
At that moment, Jesus taught in the synagogue and explained that He was the true bread that came down from heaven. However, this statement bothered the Jews, who began to murmur, criticise and question who He thought he was. Faced with this, Jesus, knowing what was said between them, immediately reprimanded them. He did it because he knew the danger of murmuring.
Why is murmuring so dangerous?
First of all, we need to recognise: we’ve all murmured at some point. However, it must be understood that no one arrives at a good place complaining. The murmur leads to stumbling, weakens faith and ends in failure.
Not by chance, the people who left Egypt did not enter the Promised Land. Although God freed them, they chose to complain in the desert rather than trust. As a result, they lost their promise.
The problem is not the desert
It is important to note that God takes those He wants to teach, mature and prepare for something greater into the desert. However, many turn this learning time into a field of complaint. Instead of learning, they murmur. They question the test, the time and the process. So they end up perishing on the way.
Therefore, the desert does not destroy anyone. The murmur, yes.
The murmur spreads
In addition, the murmur is not confined to a single person. In John chapter 6, it begins among the Jews and, shortly after, reaches the disciples. Some of them began to say that Jesus’ speech was too harsh and decided to abandon Him.
This confirms a truth: murmuring never ends well.
For this reason, it is essential to pay attention to the environments we attend. Murmurers get together easily. Today, they appear in groups, on social media, work environments and even within the family. Murmuring contaminates, weakens and destroys the faith of those who speak and those who listen.
A commandment to keep
Finally, remember: when you murmur, you curse yourself and negatively influence others. Therefore, keep this commandment of the Lord Jesus, although little quoted, but extremely necessary: “Do not murmur among yourselves.”
Mark this verse in your Bible. And when adversities and deserts come, make it an opportunity to mature.
Don’t use your mouth to murmur.
Because, while you murmur, your opportunity passes.
