INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING: 4 THINGS YOU CAN DO
To make the most of these 21 days Fast of Zacharias, without regrets, learn in this video, four things you can do instead of complaining.
We are in the Fast of Zacharias, a 21-day fast without negative words or lamentations, in which you will police yourself to not complain, because the tongue has the power of materialisation. Just as God created the world with the Word, He also gave this power to human beings so that what we say can come into existence. The Bible says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).
You know that complaining doesn’t solve anything; it only brings more negativity to you and the people listening. So, instead of complaining, you can do these 4 things:
1st – Look at the good side of things: Everything has a good and positive side. Even a tragedy can have a positive side, it depends on how you see things. It’s not always apparent, but you’ll often realise it was good. Joseph said this to his brothers when they found out he was alive, and they were afraid that he would kill them. Joseph said that what the brothers did for evil, God used for good. Because, as governor of Egypt, he could help his family. This is the faith of those who live by faith.
2nd – Give thanks to God: The Bible says: “In everything give thanks.” We need to insert more gratitude into our lives. We often treat things as if they were always there and are not grateful. This is the effect of the deceased. When the person is alive, no one says how important they are, but as soon as they die, the compliments begin: “Oh, so-and-so was so good”. Well, after you die, it’s no use anymore. Why didn’t you show appreciation while the person was here? Unfortunately, this same symptom affects all of us because we usually only miss something when it is no longer there. It’s the “we only value it after we lose”. Therefore, you should be more grateful for many good things you already have in your life, but you may despise or disdain them for already considering them guaranteed.
I remember when we worked in Africa. Sometimes, we received donations of Bibles from other countries. They were used Bibles, sometimes even with torn and dirty pages, but when people received them, they looked like children on Christmas Day receiving a gift from Father Christmas. That is, they were grateful because they didn’t have it and kept that old Bible as if it were a treasure. We often don’t realise how many good things we have, and we don’t appreciate them.
3rd – Instead of complaining, do something about it: Can you solve the problem instead of complaining? So, solve it! If the source of the complaint has a solution and you can contribute to it, do your part. And if you can’t do anything about it, just be quiet.
4th – Instead of complaining, talk to God: Now, we can talk to God and pour our complaints, anxieties and worries on Him. The Bible invites us to do this: “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). So, if you are anxious, sad, angry, upset or frustrated, go to your room, close the door, bend your knees and pour all this anguish on God. It is not murmuring to God but giving Him your anxieties, frustrations, sorrows and needs. And once you pray about it, trust. When we pray, we must believe we have already been heard and answered.
Speak, trust, surrender. It’s no longer your problem; it’s God’s; it’s in His hands. If you do these four things, you have no idea how your life will improve. But don’t just do it for 21 days. Take until the last breath of your life.
