WHAT IS YOUR “NEVER BEFORE”?

Before the change comes, the diagnosis.

Many people want to transform their own lives. They want to overcome family, financial, spiritual and emotional problems. However, few understand that every change begins with a diagnosis.

That’s exactly what Joel’s book teaches right in the first chapter.

The prophet asks a question that leads the people to reflection:

“Has anything like this happened in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?” (Joel 1:2)

In other words, Joel called people to look at their own reality and realise that they were experiencing something out of the ordinary.

The danger of getting used to pain

The obvious is not always perceived by those who are involved in the problem.

Humans are easy to adapt to, even to what is bad. That’s why many people end up living so long with pain, crisis and failures that they start to see everything as normal.

That’s exactly what happened in Joel’s days.

The destruction reached all areas of society: the countryside, families, commerce and even the temple. Still, the people continued to live without realising the seriousness of the situation.

Then, Joel began to point out the signs of that calamity.

He showed the farmers that the pests had destroyed the harvest. He warned the priests about the lack of offerings in the temple. And even the drunks realised that the wine had run out.

The prophet exposed what many had already stopped seeing.

A current message

Joel’s message is still current.

Today, many people also face their “never before”. There are those who are experiencing a financial crisis that they have never experienced before. Others face problems in marriage, health or spiritual life in an unprecedented way.

Situations that started small, but grew until they became a big crisis.

Therefore, the question is still necessary:

What is your “never before”?

What is happening in your life today that has never happened before?

The first step to transformation

Change begins when the person recognises their own condition.

Therefore, the first step is to make a sincere self-analysis and identify what needs to be treated.

In addition, it is worth reading chapter 1 of Joel’s book carefully and allowing the Word of God to reveal the root of the problems.

The good news is that God doesn’t only show the diagnosis. He also presents the solution.

The “never before” can give way to the “never again”.
