ANXIOUS, RESTLESS? IT'S A SIGN
More than anxiety, inner discomfort can be a spiritual alert - and the answer lies in reconnection with God
Have you noticed that restlessness that arises without warning? Sometimes, it appears punctually. In other cases, it seems constant – as if something bad was about to happen or as if what you want most would never come true.
This feeling does not choose time or place. It accompanies you at work, at home and even in moments of rest. And, no matter how much I try to ignore it, it’s still there, insistent.
But what does that really mean?
Restlessness as a spiritual sign
First of all, it is important to understand that restlessness is not necessarily a lack of faith. It also doesn’t mean that God has moved away. In fact, it may indicate something more subtle – a “noise” in the connection with Him.
It’s like a radio out of tune. The signal exists, but it’s not clear.
This principle appears clearly in King David’s account in Psalm 38. He describes a deep state of inner anguish:
- Weakness that doesn’t come from physical fatigue.
- Pain that reaches the soul.
- A restless heart, which “spins around”.
David even compares his suffering to a roar – like that of an afflicted lion. In other words, it was not something superficial, but intense and disturbing.
When the soul gets sick
Unlike the tiredness of the body, which is resolved with rest, the restlessness of the soul does not disappear with external solutions.
Today, many try to deal with it in other ways:
- Constant distractions on social media.
- Excessive entertainment.
- Unbridled search for activities.
- Dependence on palliative solutions.
Although some of these practices bring momentary relief, they do not solve the problem at the root.
On the contrary, they can even intensify it.
Just as physical pain warns of something wrong in the body, restlessness is a sign that the soul needs attention – and direction.
The right reaction to restlessness
David teaches us the way. When he felt distressed, he didn’t run away from God. On the contrary, he got even closer.
He declared:
“LORD, all my desire is before You; And my sighing is not hidden from You.”
In other words, he opened his heart without reservations.
This is the key point: restlessness should take you to God, not take you away from Him.
The most common mistake
Many people ignore this spiritual sign. Instead of seeking the origin of restlessness, they just try to silence it.
However, masking it doesn’t solve the problem.
You can even relieve the body with exercises or occupy the mind with distractions, but the soul will keep asking for help.
And the more this request is ignored, the more intense it becomes.
The final teaching
The guidance of the apostle Paul, in Philippians 4:6, is direct:
“Be anxious for nothing.”
But he doesn’t stop there. He shows the way:
- Present everything to God in prayer.
- Pray with sincerity.
- Act with faith and gratitude.
When there is a true connection with God, problems may even exist – but restlessness does not dominate.
Reconnect and find peace
Therefore, if you have felt restless, see this as a warning – not as an end.
Your soul is saying: “Go back to God”.
And the answer is practical:
- Pray.
- Approach God.
- Look for Him sincerely.
Because, in the end, a restless soul does not solve problems – it only increases them.
But a soul at peace finds direction, strength and clarity to overcome them.
